Why native plants?
Plants for critters
Make your garden come alive!
Native plants provide food and shelter for local birds, bees, butterflies, and more. Because they have co-existed for millennia, our wildlife are adapted to native plants for food, shelter, and raising their young. Plants are the base of the food chain - a yard without native plants is a food desert!
Plants for people
Garden like a local!
South Carolina’s native plants have color, fascination, and character that make our region special. Growing native plants creates a sense of place and connection to our unique part of the world. Invite natural beauty into your garden!
Plants for a healthy environment
Ready to grow!
Native plants are adapted to the soils and climate of our region. Once established, they require less irrigation and fertilizer. Improving local water quality and saving money is a double win!

Carolina Snailseed
(Nephroia caroliniana)
Our namesake is Carolina Snailseed. This beautiful native plant is named after the coiled shell shape of its seeds. It is a climbing vine with glossy leaves and red berries that provide food for wildlife.
